I am motivated by the belief that global innovations are happening now. I am motivated by the youth and passionate people that strive to change their world. It pushes me to do the same.

Alexis Barnes is from New York City, NY. She studied journalism at Howard University where she also worked with Amnesty International Human Rights Education Service Corps. There, she taught high school students critical thinking skills and addressed human rights issues on a local, national and international scale. After receiving her bachelor’s degree, Alexis free-lanced and taught in South Korea, after which she went on to receive a master’s degree with a concentration in international reporting from CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in New York City. During this time, she studied water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) in developing countries and traveled to Haiti where she researched alternative sanitation methods and their benefits to public health and the environment. Before joining GHC, Alexis free-lanced for various publications focusing on social issues, business and emerging technology in Africa and global development. When not working, she enjoys swimming, reading and traveling.
