Title: US Advocacy and Outreach Associate
I became a Global Health Corps fellow because the intersection of public health and social justice is personal to me.

Katherine Mitchell earned both a Bachelor and Master of Science in public policy from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia. Katherine uses her personal commitment to social justice and empowering minorities to advance knowledge in public health - the majority of her undergraduate and graduate research studies have focused on minority health disparities. She has examined food insecurity in Georgia and Alabama and consulted with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the effects of Salmonella on communities of color. Katherine has also researched the causes of low birth weight in Hispanic infants for the Cincinnati Health Department. In addition to research, Katherine is passionate about advocacy and direct action protest movements.
