Health equity means putting social justice at the heart of healthcare. It dictates that a health system acknowledges and addresses systematic inequalities and responds to the needs of all.

Sara Adelman grew up in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California. She graduated from University of California, Berkeley where she majored in international development studies with a focus in social geography and public health. While at Berkeley, she studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina, spent a summer in northwest Tanzania working on nutrition research and helped initiate an emergency Medbikes program for tackling maternal mortality. For the last three years, Sara was based in Washington DC working for a global health non-profit, the American International Health Alliance. As Senior Program Associate, her portfolio included the management of PEPFAR-funded programs in South Africa, Botswana, Namibia and Ethiopia, focusing on improving the human resources for health. This has sparked her passion for innovative approaches to supporting health workers and strengthening health systems. Sara loves travel, nature and tea — especially all together.
