Placement Country: Uganda
Title: Management Officer
I want to be a Global Health Corps fellow because the lack of access to subsidized treatment as well as the shortage of eye doctors in so many parts of Uganda are contributing to the spread of preventable conditions that lead to blindness.

William is from Kampala, Uganda. He has an honors degree from Makerere University in business computing with a focus in software engineering. After completing his degree, he worked with Innovations Systems Cluster Program – Uganda as a research assistant supporting businesses to be more competitive and innovative. He has also worked at Med Optics Vision Centre and as an operations executive and optical assistant. During his time in Med Optics, he conducted his optical training as a volunteer with Mengo Hospital Eye Department which receives an overwhelming number of eye patients due to lack of access to treatment as well as a shortage of eye doctors in other parts of the country. He later joined the team of the senior ophthalmologist and optometrist as a manager to help start up an eye clinic, which offers free checkups in schools and church communities to help those who may not be able to afford services and to help teach and change the negative perception towards eye solutions like spectacles. William also holds a post graduate diploma in project planning and management from the Uganda Management Institute. He loves adventure and sports.
