Fellowships
Students graduating from college in 2010 or those who have finished their undergraduate studies and are curently under age 30 are eligible to apply for Fellowships. No specific background or technical experience is necessary, as each individual Fellowship assignment will require different specific skills. Look at the Fellowship Opportunities available to learn about the specific assignments and the skills that our placement organizations are looking for.
In addition to the necessary skills, we value five qualities that may be demonstrated through past experience: Leadership, Humility, Creative and Entrepreneurial Spirit, Work Ethic, and Sense of Adventure.
The next round of GHC fellowships, which will run from August 2010 - August 2011, is currently under development. Applications will open on February 1st.
The period of commitment is 13 months – from the beginning of July to the beginning of August. This includes attending a two-week Summer Training Institute in July, followed by twelve months working on the ground on the Fellowship.
GHC is committed to ensuring that young people from all economic backgrounds can take advantage of this opportunity. GHC will provide stipends to cover all travel, living and work expenses for the duration of the Fellowship. In addition to covering these expenses, all fellows will receive a Completion Award at the end of the Fellowship.
Yes, applicants will apply to specific Fellowships, which are available in Rwanda, Malawi, Tanzania, Burundi, and Newark, New Jersey.
There is no specific academic background or experience required beyond the completion of an undergraduate education. Successful applicants will likely possess skills that relate to the work demanded by the Fellowship. Additionally, previous experience traveling or working in the developing world will strengthen your application. However, even if you do not have that experience, the GHC will provide you with major support to ensure a successful fellowship experience.
All of our placement organizations have extensive experience sending American volunteers and employees to their sites throughout Africa. These organizations will work with Fellows assigned to their sites to satisfy the necessary requirements for traveling and working abroad.
Fellowship teams will consist of two fellows. All teams will be cross-cultural, with one Fellow from the host country, and one International Fellow.

Yes, up to three positions. You only need two letters of recommendation, whether you apply for one, two, or three positions. You can also cut and paste answers where appropriate.
No past experience in healthcare is required. Global Health Corps Fellowships will engage young professionals from a variety of fields to use their specific skills to serve global health. Graduates with expertise in business and finance, research methods, technology and computer science, engineering, and other fields can contribute greatly to global health organizations, and are all welcome. We encourage anyone committed to social justice and health equity to look at the Fellowship Opportunities and then apply online.
