Global Health Corps 2017-2018 Application

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Global Health Corps fellow! This application is for the 2017-2018 fellowship year which begins in late June 2017 and ends in July 2018. There are two parts to the application – the General Application (Part 1), and the Position Selection and Essays (Part 2). Your application will be reviewed by both the GHC team and the partner organization(s) to which you are applying.

Please refer to our website for detailed information about the fellowship program. If you have any problems with this application, or have questions that are not addressed on the Frequently Asked Questions page, please email applyinfo@ghcorps.org.

Applications will close at 11:59PM EST on January 18, 2017. Parts 1 and 2 of the application must be completed by that date. Recommendation forms are due by 11:59PM EST on February 1, 2017. Note: 11:59PM EST is 6:59AM the following day in CAT and 7:59AM the following day in EAT.

Applying to GHC

GHC Community Essays

Please write a brief essay in response to each of the following questions. We read your essays to get to know you as a person and to learn about the ideas and interests that motivate you. We want to hear your genuine voice throughout the essays; this is the time to think carefully about the values, passions, and experiences that shape you as an individual and why you would be a good fit in the Global Health Corps community.

  1. Why do you want to be a GHC fellow? (200 words)
  2. Tell us about a time when you were part of a group that faced an obstacle and you came up with a creative solution. What was creative about this solution? Please focus on your role and the outcome. (300 words)
  3. Describe a time when you identified a social problem and took action to make a change. What did you do and what did you learn? (250 words)
  4. Describe a time when you experienced, witnessed, or learned about an injustice related to race, culture, nationality, socioeconomic status, gender, or sexual orientation. Please give an example of how this has impacted your actions. (350 words)

Recommendations

As part of your application, please submit the name and email address of a current or former supervisor who will act as your reference by completing a GHC recommendation form on your behalf. If you have never had a supervisor for any paid or volunteer work, please use a professor or other contact who can speak to your work.

You are responsible for making sure your reference submits his/her form by 11:59pm EST on February 1, 2017. This time is equivalent to 6:59AM CAT and 7:59AM EAT on February 2, 2017. 

The last step of Part 1 is to upload your proof of academic degree and your identity document below. 

Part 2 of this application – Position Selections and Essays – will open on December 7, 2016.

When Part 2 of the application opens, position descriptions for the 2017-2018 fellowship year will be posted on the GHC website, and you will be able to return to this application and select the position(s) to which you would like to apply.

You may apply for up to three different positions, but  must apply for at least one. Descriptions of each open position are available at http://ghcorps.org/positions. Please review position descriptions to ensure you meet the desired experience, qualifications, and eligibility for the position(s) you select.

Please make sure to select the correct position(s) based on the position codes noted on the website. The order in which you list the positions below does not matter. You will be evaluated for each position you select independently of your other position selections. Each essay will be reviewed by both the GHC team and the partner organization. As such, each essay should be tailored specifically to the position you are applying for; do NOT copy and paste an identical essay for each position.

  • Proof of Academic Degree: If you have completed your undergraduate/bachelor’s degree, please upload a copy of your academic transcript or document verifying your graduation date and degree completed. If you are in the process of completing your undergraduate/bachelor’s degree, please upload a document which indicates that you will complete your studies by June 25, 2017:
  • Identity Document: Please upload a scan of your identity document (e.g., National ID card, passport, driver’s license).
