Position Overview
The Project Coordinators will be responsible for piloting a community linkages component of the m2m programme in Chikhwawa district in the southern region of Malawi in order to improve the quality and reach of m2m services. This will be achieved through a combination of peer education, support and referrals, aiming at improving acceptability and increasing uptake of PMTCT services with an emphasis on promoting early infant diagnosis (EID), paediatric care and treatment, as well as optimal infant and young child feeding (IYCF) by complementing existing facility-based services with outreach and support at the community level.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical support and training support to Mentor Mothers and site Coordinators on EID, pediatric care and treatment and optimal infant and young child feeding through an integrated maternal and child health programme in Chikhwawa District
- Participate in and provide input to regular project/program meetings
- Promote effective coordination, collaboration and communication within the programme and with the regional, country office and UNICEF
- Provide routing supportive supervision to all sites implementing the programme in Chikhwawa district
- Document lessons learnt through the programme and produce periodic reports for m2m and UNICEF as a donor
Desired Skills and Experience
- Maternal and Child Health clinical expertise and experience
- Proven ability to design, and provide technical support to maternal health and integrated MCHN projects, particularly community level projects
- Demonstrated ability to engage in and manage teams and establish and maintain effective relationships with team members and district counterparts
- Experience with EID as well as infant and young child nutrition
- Demonstrated expertise in operations research preferred
- Demonstrated ability to write reports
- Demonstrated ability to work with projects, organizations, and external stakeholders, including district partners
- Fluency in written and oral English
Living Conditions
The fellow will be provided with a monthly stipend of $650 and housing. Transport will be provided to and from work on week days. The fellow will be placed in Blantyre with 75% of his/her time travelling to Chikhwawa district. A completion award of $1500 and health insurance are provided.
