About: ACODEV-U is a non-governmental organization, registered with the Uganda Ministry of Internal Affairs under the National NGO Board. Since its formation, ACODEV-U has worked to empower and transform communities to challenge social problems, access health, social, and other development services, and contribute to the development of the capacities of duty bearers to meet their obligations and/ or rights holders to claim their rights.

With a national office in Kampala and a field office for the Rwenzori Region based in the Kasese District and coalition partnerships in Northern Uganda and Karamoja region, ACODEV-U’s current geographical reach is seventeen districts.

ACODEV focuses its work on 5 key areas:

  • Research and Learning: ACODEV-U initiates, conducts and disseminates findings of participatory community studies, research, assessments and evaluations on issues pertaining to all its program areas
  • Raising Awareness: ACODEV-U raises community awareness and enlightenment at all levels on issues pertaining to all its program areas for increasing demand for services
  • Capacity Building: ACODEV-U builds communities’ capacity to take self owned actions and utilize and sustain community support structures and systems relevant to all its program areas
  • Advocacy and Community Activism: ACODEV-U supports effective and Participatory Advocacy and Community Activism work in all its program areas
  • Networking and Collaboration: ACODEV-U promotes networking with relevant government sectors and other developmental actors in strengthening effective implementation and support for all

Position Overview: The fellow will contribute to ACODEV’s work in fundraising and partnerships across all programs. The fellow will also work closely with the ACODEV management to develop a fundraising and partnership strategy, including establishing strategic partnerships. Additionally, the fellow will work closely with the Planning and M&E Unit and will report directly to the Executive Director.


Partnership Roles

  • Liaise with management to build local and international strategic partnerships for ACODEV
  • Research partnership opportunities and share them with program teams
  • Support the development of an ACODEV Partnership strategy
  • Participate in the ACODEV sub-grantee partner proposal development and review process

Fundraising Roles

  • Work with management to develop a fundraising strategy based on the organization’s strategic plan
  • Capacity building for ACODEV staff and partners in proposal development and resource mobilization skills
  • Develop fundable concept papers and proposals across ACODEV programs


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience and skills  in  developing  fundraising strategies  for NGOs
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in developing  fundable concept papers and proposals  and promoting them
  • At least three (3) years fundraising engagements
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and to beat deadlines
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and work well under pressure
  • Ability to plan ahead and work within agreed timeframes
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends as may be required
  • Sympathetic to the aims of ACODEV
  • Reliable, self-motivated and flexible; able to respond to new opportunities
  • Ability to work in a team and form productive, supportive & professional relationships with all staff at ACODEV


Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Masters Degree in business/economics or development courses or equivalent professional work experience in the area of fundraising and planning in civil society organization or related institutions


Living Conditions: Fellows will be provided with housing, health insurance and a living stipend of $550/month. Fellows will also receive an award of $1500 upon successful completion of the fellowship year.  Flights to and from the placement site and all other costs associated with GHC programming are included.
