For a long time there has been a war between culture and modern medicine. This has clocked way back especially in most African countries and led to misinformation and the loss of many lives.

To date so many people have had a change in their beliefs. There are many cultural leaders who have come up with strategies to promote modern medicine and save the lives of their subjects. The example will come from Buganda kingdom where the King has come up with numerous plans to promote having healthier and happier subjects. This has been done through conducting health out reaches by the kingdom’s ministry of health in numerous hard to reach areas. The king and queen have supported government programs through promotion of immunization and donations of equipment to hospitals including incubators, hospital beds etc. He has supported women’s health through organizing marathons like the latest where all the proceedings were to help fistula victims.  The kingdom leadership has not stopped on health promotion alone, but it’s also helped people  get out of poverty through supporting and encouraging small income generating projects like POWESA, Nsidika Njake etc .

With the trust and love people have for their cultural leaders, it’s high time government collaborates with them to promote health and poverty alleviation.
