Health equity is the dismantling of systemic forces that oppress an individual's basic human right to healthcare.
Emily Haanschoten hails from the east coast of the USA. She is a passionate advocate for reproductive health and access to care for marginalized populations. Emily has worked as an infectious disease epidemiologist at Washington State Health Department covering HIV/AIDS, STDs, viral hepatitis, and TB. As a community health facilitator during her time as Peace Corps volunteer in Vanuatu, Emily empowered women in her community through reproductive health activities and education. She was a member of Peace Corps Vanuatu's Gender and Development committee as Domestic Violence Lead. Emily received her MSPH in epidemiology from the University of South Carolina. In her free time, she enjoys reading, baking, and ballet.
