Role Overview

The Resource Mobilization Officer will be responsible for building a network of resource partners including development partners, trusts and foundations, corporations, and philanthropists. They will assist the Family Planning Association of Malawi (FPAM) in its fundraising efforts, which involves proposal writing, profiling the organization to prospective donors through meetings, and other fora. The Resource Mobilization Officer will be expected to actively participate in the development of the FPAM advocacy and communications strategy and resource mobilization strategy. They will work with both programs and finance teams.


  • Develop and implement resource mobilization strategy with support from resource mobilization focal person
  • Contribute to the development of the advocacy and communication strategy
  • Develop and strengthen partnerships for joint proposal writing, especially with credible organizations in Malawi
  • Organize resource mobilization events such as donor round tables
  • Respond to calls for proposals in collaboration with the Director of Programmes and other staff
  • Participate in marketing the organization to potential partners
  • Support in profiling the organization using the website and production of brochures
  • Support district managers to develop district level proposals
  • Conduct research on potential donors and partners and develop a database of potential donors
  • Drafting appealing proposals and concepts to diverse sources including development partners, trusts, foundations, corporations, and philanthropists

Skills and Experience

  • Experience developing and writing successful funding proposals*
  • Demonstrated experience in developing a fundraising strategy and institutional resource mobilization*
  • Strong experience in project management, preferably related to health, including past experience working on complex projects from creation to completion, managing multiple projects, and coordinating across teams to meet tight deadlines*
  • Experience developing and/or improving internal procedures, strategies, manuals, or guidelines*
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, as evidenced by experience drafting documents for external use*
  • Experience in maintaining and cultivating relationships with government agencies, donors and partner organizations
  • Experience with prospect research and/or fundraising information sources like GuideStar or the Foundation Center
  • Understanding of the development sector and grants management
  • Experience with a statistical package such as STATA, SPSS, SAS, or R
  • Prior work experience or demonstrated familiarity with the field of sexual and reproductive health (SRH)
  • Excellent analytical skills along with strong organizational ability; must be able to obtain, analyze, and evaluate a variety of information and organize, interpret, and present it in meaningful oral or written form for varied audiences*
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work proactively on a small team.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated competence in multi-tasking, working in a fast-paced environment, thinking strategically, and delivering measurable results

About the Organization

FPAM is a legally registered local NGO established in 1999 and affiliated with the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). FPAM vision is to have a Malawian society with access to quality and comprehensive Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services. Our mission is to provide quality, accessible, affordable, and comprehensive sexual reproductive health and rights information and services for young people (ages 10-24), men, women, children, and high risk key populations such as people living with HIV and female sex workers.
