Mlezi Mtambalika
Senior Program and Operations Coordinator, Malawi

Prior to joining GHC, Mlezi worked with Health Policy Plus (HPPlus) as a Program Associate. Her work focused on planning and development of training programs for partner organizations, event planning, and logistics and project management. From 2015-2016, Mlezi proudly served as a GHC fellow in Malawi and worked with the Malawi Ministry of Health’s Reproductive Health Directorate as the Programs and Partnership Officer, focusing on programs including The Youth and Friendly Health Services program, the Youth-friendly Health Services Strategy, The Maternal and Neonatal Health Program, and The Family Planning Program.

Mlezi previously worked as a Human Resource Officer at Concern Worldwide and also as a Project Coordinator at the Centre for Youth Empowerment and Civic Education (CYECE) where she focused on assessing government service delivery, community mobilization, and sensitization on Youth Sexual Reproductive Health Rights and Child Labour. A holder of a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Exploits University, Mlezi is committed to doing her part to create strong and just health systems that serve all.

Fun Fact: Growing up, Mlezi’s dream job was to become a lawyer. In between reviewing case files, she would be watching clips of her favorite movie – The Count of Monte Cristo.

Strong, just, and effective health systems are possible to create. The constantly changing nature of health systems, from changes in leadership to shifting burdens of disease, calls for different skills, passion, and adaptability. I strongly believe everyone has a role to play in creating and strengthening a health system that meets global health needs and that the world needs young, committed leaders who are ready to sacrifice for the wellbeing of others.
