Mweene Chibbonta, Zambia Program & Operations Senior Associate
"Change of any kind begins by challenging the status quo. On a daily basis, the GHC staff, fellows and alumns make daily choices to challenge what has been accepted as the norm in the global health system. By bringing together diverse skills, the GHC community hold their ground and refuse to yield to the inequities that exist in the global health system. I am honored to be part of this community of change makers that is making its mark on the world."
Prior to joining Global Health Corps, Mweene worked as Programs/Personal Assistant to the Country Director at Living Water International- Zambia. Living Water International is an American Christian non- profit organization that helps communities in developing countries to create sustainable water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programs in response to the global water crisis. While at Living Water, Mweene supported the design of the Country office strategy and supported the office in the delivery of operational goals through finalizing the annual work plan and budget. Additionally, Mweene supported the establishing and maintaining of relationships with government, partners, stakeholders and donors to achieve active alliances on programme implementation and resource mobilization. Mweene has also worked with Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO), a British international development charity that delivers development impact through international, national and community volunteers. While at VSO, she supported the piloting of a youth empowerment project in the rural district of Serenje in Zambia’s central province. Additionally, Mweene was responsible for setting up VSO- Zambia’s first return/alumni volunteer activities across 10 different districts, which encouraged the continued efforts of VSO Zambia alumns to fight poverty in their communities.
