Oumar Sylla
Zambia Program & Operations Coordinator

Oumar has nearly 10 years’ experience in communications, resource mobilization and project management roles within sexual reproductive health (SRH), tech-education and social justice focused non-governmental organizations. Oumar proudly served as a GHC fellow in Zambia in the 2018-19  cohort, where he worked at Planned Parenthood Association of Zambia as an Advocacy and Communications Officer.

Prior to joining GHC, Oumar was the Zambia Program Lead of Power Learn Project, an organization that aims to provide 1million young Africans with free software development training. He is also the co-founder of HYPE (Helping Young People), a non-profit that aims to improve the health and socio-economic status of young people in underprivileged communities. Oumar holds a BA in Library and Information Studies from the University of Zambia.

Fun Fact: In his free time, Oumar strives to live up to the title of “World’s Coolest Uncle” to his young nephews and nieces.  He also passionately supports his lovely wife’s event catering business as Chief Executive Food Taster!

I am motivated to work in health equity because I’ve lost people that were very dear to me due to inadequate health services. It’s up to me to do my part, however small, to ensure the health system that I leave behind is better than the one I was born into.
