Derrick Ssewanyana is a GHC Alumni (2011-2012) and will soon graduate with a Msc. Public Health from the University of Southern Denmark in mid 2014. During his GHC fellowship, he worked as a Health Officer at Action Africa Help (AAH-I) in Kyangwali refugee settlement where he actively engaged in quality improvement of nutritional health and sexual & reproductive health projects reaching out to over 20,000 refugees. During his grad school, Derrick has taken a 2 months internship at the Department of Mental health and Substance Abuse Management at World Health Organization, Geneva where he has widely engaged in activities that advance health equity and social justice. He has also been selected as one of the representatives in the upcoming HOPE XXL Triple-A Summit taking place in The Hague (Netherlands) in May 2014. This summit brings together a group of young people that will develop young people's vision on the future and present it to the United Nations General Assembly. Derrick also previously worked in various health programs and voluntary services in fields such as water & sanitation, reproductive health, health research and environmental conservation with various organizations like NETWAS, PathFinder International, Starkey Hearing Foundation, and Nature Uganda. Derrick looks forward to advancing his skills in public health through an international career after his grad school this year.
