Misha Stande engages closely with district health teams, facility staff, and community governance structures across Malawi, bridging national priorities with local realities. Her work ensures that health services are responsive, integrated, and equitable, empowering communities, facility staff, and district health leaders while fostering ownership and accountability.
Outside of her current role, Misha is proud of her voluntary participation in sign language classes through her church, which has allowed her to communicate with the deaf community and reduce barriers to information, participation, and self-protection. She also led the launch of a first-of-its-kind digital health information platform at Mwanza District Hospital, improving patient record management, performance tracking, and operational efficiency.
In her current position, Misha is part of a task team pioneering a service integration study in Rumphi and Nkhotakota districts, enabling patients to access multiple services in one visit and improving quality of care. She is also part of an all-women team in her directorate that has developed strategic and guiding documents, including a situation analysis on leadership and governance gaps, terms of reference, and an operational plan aligned with Malawi’s Health Sector Strategic Plan III.
Misha is committed to advancing health equity, particularly in expanding access to HIV/AIDS care and addressing emerging needs such as NCDs. She draws inspiration from Ronald Reagan: “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. They are the one who gets people to do the greatest things,” motivating her to empower health workers, community structures, and patients to drive meaningful improvements together.
