Aaron Shapiro is from Rockville, MD. Is is currently a medical student at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Before joining the GHC, Aaron worked for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Bureau for Food Security on the U.S. Government’s Feed the Future Initiative. He received his B.S. in Global Health from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he also minored in International Development and Conflict Management. While at the University of Maryland, Aaron served as Administrator of the University’s Peer Counseling and Crisis Intervention Hotline, founded a peer education group to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention, and founded a student group to fight homophobia in the Jewish community. Aaron has interned for the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition in Washington, D.C., securing maximum funding for the International Affairs Budget; the Social Justice Coalition in Cape Town, South Africa, advocating for better sanitation and security in surrounding townships; and volunteered at St. Lucia Hospice and Orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania, working with HIV-positive children and adults towards better health outcomes.
