Title: Performance Management/Quality Improvement Coordinator, Davis County Health Department

Austin Andrews is a pillar of his Syracuse, Utah community thanks to his volunteer work, community engagement, and work with the Davis County Health Department since 2020. As Performance Management/Quality Improvement Coordinator, he brings his lived experiences and commitment to closing health gaps for underserved communities like those experiencing homelessness, the elderly, LGBTQIA+, and local refugee populations. Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Austin ran a mass vaccination clinic that ensured everyone in Davis County, regardless of citizenship status, could receive a COVID-19 vaccine. As part of his role, he spearheaded a program that sent nursing teams into the homes of older adults, medically vulnerable individuals, and refugee populations to provide vaccinations. As a relative newcomer to the public health field, pivoting in part in response to the inequities exposed during the pandemic, Austin is eager to demonstrate the resilience and adaptability he brings to the fellowship as a leader, while also honing the more nascent skills that will elevate his work. As a GHC fellow, Austin also looks forward to expanding his worldview and promoting equity, empathy, and trust in public health.
