I am a Global Health Corps fellow because I believe in the collective abilities held within myself and others to sow seeds of transformation in deprived, marginalized areas of life.

Kenya Murray was born in Metcalfe, Mississippi. Prior to joining GHC, she worked at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene as a CDC/CSTE Fellow where she conducted infectious disease outbreak investigations, established disease surveillance systems and conducted research to understand how risk factors related to several communicable diseases were distributed. Kenya completed her undergraduate studies at Mississippi State University and earned a Master of Public Health with a concentration in epidemiology at the University of Georgia. While in graduate school, she interned at Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) within the Office of Health Equity where she implemented and managed the agency’s first data collection system for minority health activities focused on reducing disparities and improving health equity. After completing her graduate studies, Kenya worked at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where she developed metrics to measure population health and developed epidemiological tools and resources to assist state and local health departments complete the Affordable Care Act mandated Community Health Needs Assessments. She recently traveled to a rural community in Jamaica to complete a social service project, in which she lived amongst the villagers of Canaan to learn about sustainable agriculture, community farming and alternative medicine.
