Liana grew up in Cambridge, MA. She completed a BA with honors at Wesleyan University as a member of the competitive College of Social Studies. While an undergraduate, she was engaged in a wide range of community and health-related work through the Student Government, Middlesex Coalition for children, Harvard School of Public Health, Roosevelt Institute, Cultural Survival, Johanna Justin-Jinrich Health Center and Habitat for Humanity. Junior year, she was awarded a Davenport fellowship and worked with AIDS Action Committee and PACT of Partners in Health. Inspired by this work, her senior thesis discussed the incorporation of Community Health Workers (CHWs) into the US Medicaid system. Upon graduating, Liana was accepted as a Thomas J. Watson Fellow. She has traveled to over ten different countries studying CHW infrastructures. In Tanzania, she founded a psychosocial support program for the caregivers of HIV+ children, and in Bangladesh, she designed and implemented a qualitative survey examining lateral support amongst BRAC's CHWs. An aspiring artist, Liana also enjoys painting and completed a senior project in abstract expressionism while at Wesleyan.
