A community is one of the most powerful forces for collective change. Fostering community can start small - even the simplest acts of kindness can create connections. Creating opportunities for empathy within and across communities empowers individuals to work together to find solutions that have benefits for everyone.

Marie-Helene Rousseau was born in Jordan and has lived in Tunisia, Bangladesh, Morocco, Italy, Egypt, Virginia and New York. Since graduating from New York University in 2009 with an undergraduate degree in comparative literature and journalism, she has worked to combine her love of writing with a fervent interest in humanitarian issues. While in New York, Marie-Helene worked as a Communications Intern at the Women’s Refugee Commission and a Social Media Coordinator at the Global Partnership for Afghanistan. Prior to joining GHC, she was the Web Editor and Associate Social Media Manager for ArtPrivee.com, a database of international art foundations and museums worldwide. Marie-Helene also worked as an Editorial Associate at Karen Gantz Literacy Management, a New York-based literacy agency.
