I am motivated by the stories of individuals who face impenetrable barriers to accessing healthcare and of women who lack the freedom to choose what is right for their body. I am motivated by the growth and learning that comes with every new day and the people that inspire me to continually strive to be a change-maker.

Marielle Schweickart is originally from the suburbs of Seattle, Washington. After graduating from Rice University, she accepted a Princeton in Africa Fellowship with Sanergy, a social enterprise that franchises hygienic toilets in Nairobi’s slums. During her two years in Kenya, Marielle launched Sanergy’s Kiva.org program and ran research, knowledge management and partnership-building projects to increase organizational efficiency. She completed her undergraduate studies at Rice University, majoring in history and minoring in poverty, social justice and human capabilities. While at Rice, Marielle built rainwater-harvesting systems in Lesotho, researched family planning in Tanzania and studied northern European healthcare in Denmark. Prior to joining GHC, Marielle worked to bring philanthropists together in funding strategic, innovative and effective solutions to end homelessness in America. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering with NARAL Pro-Choice America, listening to podcasts, learning Spanish and cheering on the Seattle Seahawks.
