Mulenga Mukanu was born and raised in Lusaka. After receiving her Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Zambia, Mulenga worked as a pharmacist at Macha Mission Hospital in rural Zambia. While at Macha, she developed a passion for health equity after observing the disparities in access to health care in rural areas. Mulenga then pursued a Master of Public Health in health policy and management from the University of Zambia. She is also passionate about youth empowerment and education and hopes to establish a fund that helps youth living in rural areas receive tertiary education. Most recently, Mulenga worked on a research initiative to support the empowerment of girls in rural areas.
