Remmitor Bonga, originally from Lilongwe, Malawi, is committed to advancing health equity for underserved communities through his work as Project Officer at Amref Africa Malawi. His work spans sexual and reproductive health, WASH, and COVID-19 vaccination with a focus on adolescents and women. Using his expertise to create tailored solutions that address the unique needs of rural communities, Remmitor handles all aspects of project delivery, from planning to evaluation. By fostering partnerships with health officials, community leaders, and volunteers, he has empowered communities to take charge of their health, improving access to services and reducing health inequalities. One of his proudest achievements is leading the Dance 4 Change initiative, which significantly reduced early child marriages by raising awareness about Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and preventing over 50 child marriages. He also played a key role in COVID-19 vaccination campaigns, combating misinformation and increasing vaccine uptake. His efforts in improving WASH practices in schools and healthcare centers have provided communities with clean water and sanitation. Notably, his work on the MOMENTUM Tikweze Umoyo Project helped secure $28 million in funding to enhance maternal, neonatal, child health, and malaria prevention. As a GHC fellow, Remmitor hopes to refine his leadership and advocacy skills, gaining global insights to improve maternal and child health in Malawi while pioneering accessible health systems.
