Health equity means levelling the playing field so that everyone has a fair chance to holistic health.
Bethel Aklilu is an Ethiopian-Canadian from Toronto and is passionate about health equity. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), she completed her Master of Public Health degree in health promotion with a global public health emphasis from the University of Toronto. During her studies, she engaged in a variety of activities including co-founding the Anthropology and Health Studies Association at UTSC and co-leading empowerment workshops with female youth in Debre Berhan, Ethiopia. Before joining GHC, Bethel was a helpline counselor for mothers who use drugs and alcohol during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and was the health promotion assistant at the UTSC Health & Wellness Centre and coordinated the peer education programs on campus.
