Chelsea Yalen is from Connecticut. She graduated from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine with a Master’s degree in Control of Infectious Diseases, and received her Bachelor’s in Epidemiology from the University of Rochester. Her MSc thesis involved a community-based population survey of trachoma in rural Fiji, in which she reported a new confounder for trachoma surveys never previously described: a cultural practice of eyelash epilation in the absence of trichiasis. Prior to moving to London, Chelsea spent her gap year volunteering for Sahayatri Nepal, a small local Nepali NGO, where she implemented health education programs in rural schools and communities throughout the Makwanpur district primarily focusing on HIV/AIDS awareness. In her free time, Chelsea enjoys hiking, baking, and exploring our beautiful planet.
