Emma Uwodukunda was born in Rwanda, where she spent her early childhood years. Post-Genocide, she moved to the US, where in 2004 she completed her undergraduate studies in Psychology and Women’s Studies at Emmanuel College in Boston. Recently, she completed her graduate studies in Nursing through the Direct Entry Master’s Program at the University of New Hampshire. Prior to her studies, she worked as a research coordinator at the Boston University Medical School working with patients dealing with drug abuse. She also spent some years volunteering as a counselor with The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center. It was this work that led Emma to pursue a career in nursing, with a specific interest in community health. Currently, Emma works at Parkland Medical Center as an Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) and in her free time volunteers with the organization Rain for the Sahel and Sahara. She loves spending time with her friends, enjoying cups of Rwandan tea with her family, doing crafts, yoga, cooking and relaxing to Malian blues music.
