Community is an entity that has shaped me to be who I am today and continues to inspire me to be more.

Hazel is from Balaka, south of Malawi. She has a Bachelor of Social Science degree from the University of Malawi, Chancellor College and a certificate in Bioethics and Research Ethics from CEBESA, College of Medicine. She majored in Sociology during her undergraduate training because she wanted to understand more about communities and people living in them so that she could contribute in finding ways of making people's lives better. After finishing college Hazel went to Balaka her home town where she started working as a Personnel and Data Coordinator for Tsogolo la Thanzi Research Study, a Penn State University longitudinal study looking at ‘How young adults navigate reproduction in an AIDS epidemic’. While working at TLT Hazel also had a chance to coordinate a qualitative study looking at ‘Young adult’s response to ART’. She also collaborated with researchers from Colorado University on publishing a paper in the journal of AIDS CARE on HIV Treatment Optimism and it's predictors among young adults in Southern Africa. In her recent job, Hazel was working as a social science consultant in an organization undertaking water, sanitation and environment related projects. Hazel is currently living in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi and she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter.
