Health equity means that the most vulnerable have the same access to care as the most privileged.

Lavina Ranjan is from Sri Lanka and was raised between Toronto and Chicago. She received her master’s in public health at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Lavina most recently worked with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in the Caribbean. As a consultant for IFRC, Lavina implemented a Zika awareness and prevention project in 10 Caribbean islands. Before moving to the Caribbean, Lavina worked with USAID on two research projects in South Africa. One project implemented support groups and mental health assessments for HIV positive adolescents, while the other project was focused on preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV among pregnant women. Other than maternal, newborn, and child health, Lavina is passionate about refugee assistance and women’s rights in the U.S. and overseas.
