Raymond Besiga is from Kampala, Uganda. He completed his undergraduate studies at Makerere University, majoring in Telecommunications Engineering. While at Makerere, he was part of a select group of student developers with the iLabs@MAK project, a Carnegie Corporation-sponsored research project at Makerere University in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The project actively developed remote laboratories on the iLabs Platform to supplement the conventional laboratories in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. This enabled the department to ease the congestion of students in the lab during practical sessions. While with the project, he attended and jointly facilitated training workshops at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Since completing his studies, Raymond has worked as a NOC Engineer at Alcatel-Lucent Uganda and Research Assistant at Makerere University. He actively plays in the Uganda Rugby Football Union League and was part of the Under-19 Rugby National Team. He is a huge fan of the New England Patriots in the NFL.
