Alumni
Program Overview

GHC’s intensive leadership development program equips alumni to drive systems change, excel in their careers, and collaborate for greater impact in the field.

GHC's diverse network of 1,300+ alumni are the leaders we need in global health. Together, they're driving health systems change and creating a more equitable future.

Once a Fellow, Always a Fellow: Joining the Powerful GHC Alumni Network

Upon completion of the 9-month fellowship, fellows transition to GHC’s global alumni community. The vast majority continue to work in global health, development, and social justice —they are retained at 2x the rate of their peers.

As they rise in their careers, alumni access GHC’s ongoing leadership resources, training, and opportunities and deepen their connections within our tight-knit, growing network. Their engagement in the GHC alumni community amplifies their individual and collective impact on health systems in their communities.

Path to Impact

GHC’s investment doesn’t stop when fellows leave the Leadership Accelerators. Through ongoing dialogue with our 1,300+ alumni, we’ve built a responsive program that adapts to their changing needs throughout their careers.

Our alumni program operates on three interconnected levels:

Developing leaders who excel.

We partner with organizations and experts to provide critical professional development as alumni rise in their careers. In 2025, this included a Career Crossroads Series for comprehensive self-assessment, training with Narachi Leadership on inclusive leadership, and coaching sessions with Patrice Tanaka on discovering life and leadership purpose.

Cultivating leaders who influence.

We create platforms for alumni to shape critical conversations in global health. Through our Shift Happens Speaker Series, 100+ alumni engaged with peers on topics like AI in public health and innovative health financing. Our Health Equity Sessions brought experts like Professor Groesbeck Parham from WHO to discuss improving access to cervical cancer prevention and treatment.

Promoting leaders who collaborate.

We facilitate peer resource groups, leadership summits, and regional chapters that drive systemic change. Our country chapters have advanced critical initiatives from Rwanda’s mental health policy reform with the Ministry of Health to Zambia’s Annual Mental Health Symposium and school-based SRHR programs.

In June 2025, the GHC Zambia Alumni Chapter hosted its third annual Mental Health Symposium, a flagship event advancing youth-led advocacy for mental health. Alumni, policymakers, and community leaders came together to break the silence around mental health and bridge personal experience with public policy. The event produced a communique and call to action for the Ministry of Health and celebrated progress such as the creation of a mental health department within the Zambia Police Service—demonstrating the power of alumni-led collective action to make mental wellness a national priority.

Within the impact trajectory and collective action framework, GHC designs, curates, and facilitates a range of evolving programs to equip our rising leaders to reach new heights in their work advancing health equity.

Sustainable change requires our leaders to include and engage partners, influencers, and stakeholders across health ecosystems. That’s why we’re increasingly opening up our partnerships and offerings to GHC alumni’s colleagues and peers.
