Melyn McKay is from northern Utah. She completed her studies at Colby College, where she majored in Anthropology and Government. At Colby she undertook months-long ethnographic research in Maine high schools with a focus on health education, and also traveled to Morocco to study microfinance and Arabic. In 2007 Melyn won a Davis Foundation grant to teach a peer-based health education curriculum that she designed to high school students in several Chinese cities. Upon completing her studies, Melyn accepted a role with Ogilvy, a global creative communications agency. While at Ogilvy, Melyn created a new practice area focused on the use of ethnography and specialized in crisis communications and branding. Melyn has enjoyed being a member of the Chicago board of Indego Africa, a non-profit that creates entrepreneurial opportunities for women in Rwanda. She also mentors for RefugeeOne, an organization that helps recent Iraqi refugees to acclimatize. In the free time that remains, Melyn enjoys playing music with her band of scruffy but talented musicians.
