Celebrating 2 Years of Progress Towards our CGI Commitment

In 2022, Global Health Corps announced a $1.8 million Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) commitment to recruiting and training 100+ emerging leaders (ages 21-30) working in public health across the U.S. by 2025. With catalytic partners including Bloomberg Philanthropies, Rippleworks, and MacKenzie Scott, GHC launched an inaugural cohort of 30 fellows in June 2023. With additional support from Adtalem Global Education Foundation, Wagner Foundation, Schooner Foundation, MCJ Amelior, and Texas Biomedical Research Institute, GHC launched a second cohort of 30 fellows in June 2024.

About the Program

Those most impacted by inequities often face additional barriers to career advancement and are least represented at top levels of public health leadership. GHC is committed to investing in the skills and networks that these young professionals need to advance in their careers, effectively manage teams, and make meaningful changes for the communities they serve. Since 2009, GHC has trained 1,200+ health equity leaders with an award-winning curriculum and networked approach.

Our U.S. Leadership Accelerator supports rising public health leaders at a critical stage in their career. U.S. fellows engage in a 12-month, fully funded program that includes mentorship, executive coaching, in-person and hybrid training, and network building to bolster growth and impact. The fellowship is designed on the pillars of authentic leadership, collective leadership, and systems leadership.

Throughout the fellowship, fellows deepen their self-awareness, extend and leverage their network, improve their understanding of systems change, and increase their efficiency advancing health equity.

U.S. Fellow Spotlights

Metzli Navarro Gonzalez, Dallas, TX

Health Services Grant Senior Project Manager, Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas

For Metzli, healthcare is personal. And in a state like Texas, the personal is the political. As a rising leader, she has dedicated her career to dismantling the systems of oppression that continue to exacerbate poor reproductive and maternal health outcomes, and continues to provide an all-around more versatile and diverse approach to the ever-changing field of healthcare.

Shane J. Lee, Chicago, IL

Program Coordinator,
Sustain Our Futures Foundation

The intersection of global warming and community health outcomes pushes Shane to advocate for environmental justice. His activism is informed by an awareness of how environmentally unjust actions harm the health of historically excluded people. Through the Leadership Accelerator, Shane hopes to strengthen his global health understanding to advance progress in planetary health in Chicago and beyond.

Funding Progress

GHC is working to raise support for a third nationwide cohort to launch in June 2025.
