Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Abena Marfo serves as a Program Evaluator at Prism Health North Texas. In this role, she supports a range of community-based initiatives focused on people living with HIV, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and ethnic minorities. Her work includes facilitating support groups, coordinating HIV/STI testing services, and driving community engagement efforts that aim to advance health equity and access.
Abena is particularly proud of co-founding a first-generation student organization at her undergraduate institution, which continues to thrive today. She also brings experience from an internship with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where she deepened her passion for evidence-based public health approaches. At Prism Health, she is especially excited to help finalize the organization’s clinical improvement plan, shaped by input from the Sexual Health Advisory Group (SHAG)—a community-led initiative launched to ensure programs reflect lived experience and community voice.
Abena lives by the belief that “health is a human right.” She is committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to care for their health and thrive in all aspects of life. Her approach to leadership is rooted in collaboration and community, inspired by the words of Dr. Paul Farmer: “With rare exceptions, all of your most important achievements on this planet will come from working with others—or, in a word, partnership.”
