Adriano Focus Lubanga

Senior Research Fellow and Research Programs Lead

Clinical Research Education and Management Services (CREAMS)

Hailing from Lilongwe, Malawi, Adriano Focus Lubanga serves as a Senior Research Fellow and Research Programs Lead at Clinical Research Education and Management Services (CREAMS). His work centers on engaging communities in research through education, dialogue, and dissemination of findings. Depending on the project scope, these engagements range from short-term collaborations to long-term partnerships that build trust and strengthen community participation in health research.

Adriano’s journey in health care began with volunteer service. As a student, he worked as a clinical assistant at Kasese Health Centre under Orant Charities Africa, building relationships that continue to shape his professional path. He also volunteered as a research assistant to Dr. Katundu at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, an experience that honed his research skills and nurtured his leadership in evidence generation and health equity.

At CREAMS, Adriano is especially proud of launching the Associate Membership Program and the Early Career Grant Scheme. Both initiatives are designed to cultivate the next generation of researchers and leaders by expanding opportunities for professional growth and inclusion in the research field. He views these programs as critical to ensuring sustainability and innovation within Malawi’s research ecosystem.

Deeply committed to advancing gender equity and equal inclusion in evidence generation, research, and practice, Adriano sees his work as part of a broader effort to create a more just and equitable health system. His leadership is guided by the words of Henry Ford: “To do more for the world than the world does for you – that is success.”
