Aanjalie was born in Sri Lanka but is a native of Toronto, Canada. She most recently lived in the United Kingdom where she completed a master's in global development studies at the University of Cambridge. At Cambridge, she was actively involved as an editor for the Cambridge Globalist magazine, and rowed for her college team. Aanjalie completed her undergraduate studies at Queen's University in Canada where she majored in global development studies, with a focus on improving the accessibility of health services to refugees and internally displaced persons in post-conflict environments. During her studies, Aanjalie traveled to Cape Town, South Africa, where she interned at a human rights law firm dealing with refugee law.
