Anne Christine Ingeborg Heerdegen was born and raised in Denmark. She earned a bachelor’s degree in public health from the University of Copenhagen in 2011. During her studies, Anne traveled to India where she interned for an organization focusing on primary prevention of diabetes within the country. She returned to the University of Copenhagen to pursue a Master of Public Health, which she completed in 2014. While in graduate school, Anne spent one semester studying global health in Australia. She also worked for the NGO DIGNITY, where she assisted in research focused on torture and torture sequelae. In addition to her studies, Anne devoted her time to volunteering with the Red Cross Youth and the Society Against Female Genital Mutilation, and being a central team coordinator in the recently established Global Health Next Generation Network. Since graduating in 2014, Anne has worked at the Danish Cancer Society in the Documentation and Quality department focusing on how to improve the quality of cancer care.
