Title: Policy and Advocacy Associate
I was motivated to become a Global Health Corps Fellow by my desire to fulfill my obligation as an advocate and ally to continually educate and challenge myself so that my actions will always function to uproot, not entrench, inequality in all its forms.

Athena Rayburn was born and raised in London, England. After graduating in 2013 with her bachelor's degree, Athena moved to New York to complete her master’s degree in international affairs at the The New School. While in New York, Athena worked with gender-based violence and advocacy organizations such as Girl Rising, YWCA-NYC and United Nations Development Programme, Serbia. In the summer of 2015, Athena lived in Istanbul for two months working as a consultant for Turkey's largest feminist political organization, KA.DER. In 2016, she continued her work in women's rights by joining the fundraising team at Planned Parenthood in New York in 2016. Athena most recently spent 10 months in Kathmandu, Nepal as a Research and Evaluation Fellow for a local women’s leadership NGO, Women LEAD Nepal.
