Health equity to me means that all individuals regardless of place of origin, sexual orientation, and/or ability to pay have access to affordable, dignified, quality access to healthcare services.
Hailing from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia Christian Abraham Arega has committed herself to creating more equitable health systems by building robust and self-sustaining health systems in low-income countries through a career in healthcare finance and economics. Prior to joining GHC, Christian served as a Primary Healthcare Financing Intern at Partners In Health where she worked on a study aimed at understanding costs associated with expanding primary healthcare access to all residents of Kono District in Sierra Leone. While at the University of Notre Dame, Christian completed her thesis, “Structural Violence, Politics, and Notions of Healthcare Deservingness for Undocumented Latino Immigrants in Indiana vs. Illinois,” to give insight on the landscape of healthcare access and resource allocation in Indiana and Illinois and the causes of disparities between the states. For fun, Christian partakes in pottery and music listening sessions with friends.
