Diego Solares graduated with Honors from the University of California, Irvine with a degree in International Studies. While studying abroad in Brazil and Thailand, Diego collaborated with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), UNAIDS, and grassroots NGOs on projects focusing on human security, violence prevention, and HIV prevention. Upon returning to the US, he worked for the Community Knowledge Project, whose objective is to reduce health inequities in Southern California's underserved communities. After graduating from UC-Irvine, Diego served as a William J. Clinton Fellow for Service in Maharashtra, India at a grassroots NGO that provides HIV/AIDS prevention and care for a community of sex workers. Most recently, Diego worked as a consultant for PAHO on HIV prevention for men who have sex with men in Latin America and the Caribbean.
