Community is important to me because it is a place that fosters grow and development in all people, regardless of age. It provides its members hope and acts as a safety net when needed. I am thankful for the different communities in my life because they have shaped me into who I am.

Ellen grew up in Newfields, New Hampshire. She completed her undergraduate degree at Assumption College, majoring in biotechnology and molecular biology. During college, Ellen studied abroad in Stellenbosch, South Africa. This experience propelled her to earn her master’s degree from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. After completing her degree, she spent two years serving in the Peace Corps in Zambia as a community health advisor. There she worked with a rural community increasing food security, providing health education and volunteering. Ellen enjoys a good adventure, whether it is cultural, culinary, a new travel destination, or any other way in which to push her out of her comfort zone.
