Francesca Cavallaro grew up in a British-Italian family in southern France. As a Human Sciences undergraduate at Oxford University, she studied human ecology, demography and anthropology, and wrote her dissertation on policies for feeding HIV-exposed infants in Africa. After graduating, Francesca volunteered for 6 months with the Academic Model for Providing Access to Healthcare (AMPATH) in Eldoret, Kenya. Her work centered on the B-FINE Women’s Project for STI prevention and treatment among commercial sex workers on the trans-African highway. Francesca is interested in maternal-infant health and the implications of poverty for healthcare delivery, and hopes to study for a Master’s of Public Health after completing her fellowship.
