Gisela is originally from La Paz, Bolivia. She completed her undergraduate studies in Anthropology and Music and then went on to finish her MPH in Epidemiology/Biostatistics last year from the University of Southern Mississippi (USM). As an undergraduate student, she won the Lambda Alpha Award for Best Undergraduate Paper in Anthropology, and as a graduate student, she was nominated as the Community and Educational Outreach Coordinator for USM Symphony Orchestra. In past years, she worked as a Data Analyst and a Health Educator and Outreach Coordinator in the United States and in Bolivia. Additionally, she published an article titled "Assessment of the Advances in Public Health for the Achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in Latin America and the Caribbean." Recently, she obtained a traineeship with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) addressing binge drinking among American Indian/Alaska Native tribes. Her areas of interest are reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and health disparities. Gisela has played the violin since she was ten, and has financed all her studies with music scholarships. She also enjoys reading, dancing, is a strong believer in karma and is always up to meet new people.
