Joanna is from Burundi. In 2013, she joined the Iwacu Press Group, Burundi's print media leader and only newspaper with a section in English. Recently, Joanna won the Andika Prize, an English writing contest organized by the American Embassy in Burundi. Joanna studied modern literature at Lumie`re University, Bujumbura. Her fondness for communication and foreign languages drove her study of English. Prior to working for Iwacu, she worked with Village Health Works in Kigutu. In addition to humanitarian work, Joanna's other passions include reading, writing, music, crafting, and soap making.
