Juliet Nandawula was born in Kampala, Uganda. She completed her undergraduate studies in nursing and received her master’s degree in clinical epidemiology and biostatistics from Makerere University. While in graduate school, she wanted to better understand the distribution and determinants of health related states and use that knowledge to control disease and improve the health of the population. Her particular interest focused on tuberculosis control. Juliet worked at Mulago Hospital as an intern nurse for one year and then moved on to China-Uganda Friendship Hospital as a nursing officer for two years. She finds the most joy watching former patients walk out of the hospital healthy and happy.
