Born and raised in Masaiti, Zambia, Lewis Kayembo is committed to improving public health through innovative approaches. As an Environmental Health Officer for the Ministry of Health–Zambia, he has played a key role in identifying risks and providing solutions to pressing health challenges. His expertise in data collection and analysis has yielded reliable insights, helping to develop effective solutions to health issues. With strong skills in program management, capacity building, and policy implementation, Lewis has mobilized communities to actively engage in health programs. One of Lewis’ notable achievements is the successful execution of the Indoor Residual Spraying program, which led to a significant decline in malaria cases. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his efforts helped contain the outbreak by reducing infection rates and increasing vaccination numbers. His contributions to improving the district’s surveillance system ensured community safety, while his focus on compliance with health regulations created safer environments for everyone. As a GHC fellow, Lewis aims to develop skills in strategic thinking, advocacy, and project management. He looks forward to collaborating with like-minded professionals, sharing best practices, and learning from diverse leaders to drive health system reforms and enhance health equity in Zambia.
