Lonjezo is from Zomba district in Malawi. He majored in Economics, with a minor in Sociology, at the University of Malawi, Chancellor College. Lonjezo was President of Chancellor College Students Union. Towards the end of his undergraduate studies, Lonjezo was named "Outstanding Defender of Academic Freedom" by Chancellor College Academic Staff Union during the inaugural Academic Freedom Symposium and was named "Leader of Our Time" by the college's graduating class of '12. Following his graduation, Lonjezo joined the Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation in Lilongwe as a Project Officer, where he worked on implementing a project aimed at protecting rights of sexual minorities and mainstreaming their issues into the national HIV/AIDS response. Prior to joining GHC, Lonjezo was promoted to Project Coordinator and was assigned to manage a project on gender equality and women empowerment in the northern border district of Karonga.
