Author: Michele Sahabo

Michèle is from Bujumbura, Burundi, where she was the first ever female highway site engineer working for The Project of Rehabilitation of Roads and Infrastructure. She attended the University of Bradford where she earned a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering. After graduating, Michèle worked at Balfour Beatty Major Civil Engineering, where she participated in major sustainable highway and street lighting projects for local UK councils. During this time, she was also studying for her Master’s degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Greenwich, specializing in Highway Engineering and Water/Wastewater and Environmental Engineering. It wasn’t long before Michèle turned her attention back to her home country of Burundi, where she felt her skills could have a greater social impact. In 2011, Michèle returned to Burundi, emboldened to inspire more women to become engineers.
