Nilusha Jayasinghe was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka and grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia since she was ten years old. She graduated from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) with a double major in biology and Spanish, and later with a master’s degree in molecular biology. Nilusha dedicated over two years to Health Leads, a non-profit that tackles social determinants of health. In this role, Nilusha connected many inner-city Baltimore residents to various resources, such as food stamps and employment assistance. Her time at the National Institute of Health before GHC solidified her interests in infectious diseases and public health. There, she collaborated with physicians and nurse-researchers to develop and implement vaccine clinical trials. Nilusha enjoys traveling, the outdoors, yoga, and cooking (especially spicy food).
