Born in India, Dr. Pallavi Oruganti was raised in Dayton, Ohio, and has lived in Colorado for the past two years. As a Veterinary Medical Officer with the USDA APHIS Veterinary Services, her work specializes in veterinary epidemiology, public health practice, and policy. At the USDA, Pallavi focuses on federal and state animal health regulations and program disease guidelines. She serves as a subject matter expert on biosecurity protocols for livestock facilities and animal disease prevention. Pallavi has also worked to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in the veterinary profession, working to create safe spaces for BIPOC veterinary professionals, provide mentorship for BIPOC students, and facilitate pathways into the profession for minority students. She currently serves on the board of the Multicultural Veterinary Medical Association, an organization focused on DEI, and the Veterinary Hope Foundation, a non-profit focused on mental health. Pallavi sought out the GHC fellowship to better understand emerging issues and challenges in global health, and to grow her confidence as a female, BIPOC leader in global health and veterinary medicine.
